I was watching E News and Entertainment Tonight last night. There was quite a bit of coverage about Lindsey Lohan "falling off the wagon." I got to thinking; "How old is this girl?" Didn't she just turn 21? Now I know that she's been in rehab and she probably does have a serious problem with staying clean! But there is all of this negative press about all of these so-called "party girls" in the news these days. It made me think back to when I was Lindsey's age. I was a junior in college and just discovering that the party gene had not missed my body and I was not destined to remain a goody-two shoes forever. Up until that year I had remained the clean living ideal daughter. I didn't smoke, drink, or even go to parties where there would be drinking! Not that I thought I was above all that, I just didn't feel like it was for me. Then I made some new friends (not wild girls by any stretch, but they did like to have fun) and I started going out. I turned 21 and had drinks in my dorm room. (Wine coolers. I know, very cool!)
For the next three years of school I continued to party on a regular basis. Those wine coolers in my dorm turned into drinking at parties, at the bar, in our car, etc. You name the place, I probably drank there. When I moved into a house with two of the "party girls" things really took off. I was a full-time college student and worked five to six days a week. Yet, I managed to party my ass off at least 4 nights a week. I still made it to class and maintained a really good GPA! It was awesome! Some of the best times were in those three years.
So, where am I going with all of this? Well, if there had been a camera catching all of my and my friend's exploits on film, I'd have given today's party girls a run for their money. What I'm saying is that these girls are young! If they weren't celebrities and being filmed 24/7, we wouldn't know and wouldn't care less! Give them a break! Let them enjoy being the age they are now. In about 10 years they are going to look back at this time and have fond memories. I know I do! And those "good girls" that Hollywood are always praising? Well I think it's great that they are taking control of their lives and having fun without drinking. But that doesn't mean that they are better people. It just means that they enjoy having fun without drinking. Some of us like to have while drinking! We're allowed!
So, that's my rant for the day. I'm planning on spending the weekend finding out as much as possible about the new Britney Spear's developments. That girl is nuts!
